LOL - love the Clueless quote thrown in - one of my faves! And I use the "Bubs" on all my bathroom surfaces (all over toilet, shower/tub, and sink/countertop) - big fan!

Ahhh the Hairpin days. Not me smugly telling my husband I’d been reading Clean Person long before he came at me with the Deadspin blogs. Ye gads typing that made me feel old.

Just an option - I swapped to using hydrogen peroxide spray during a norovirus outbreak and my kid’s school and never use bleach for general cleaning any more. Hydrogen peroxide is pet safe, doesn’t trigger (my) migraines and kills more nasty critters than bleach. Also, fwiw bleach isn’t as good at killing hardcore mold as other products (the Gelivable mold and mildew cleaner ftw here).

Which HP cleaner do you use? Seventh G has one but I haven’t used it much.

Just a couple of things: I, too, love the Hairpin vibe and hope it stays. I still miss the Hairpin.

You said God, why am I so bitchy today?!? Well, I guess we all are, and those who are not fighting off bitchiness make me suspicious.

Thanks for your work.

Keep it up, my queen.

Thank you for sharing this method! It’s truly life changing for me. I live in South Africa and we don’t have scrubbing bubbles or something similar, do you have any suggestions for alternatives? I’m also not a bleach fan.

You probably covered this before, but I missed it. Scrubbing bubbles has several products. Is the one you prefer called “bathroom grime fighter aerosol”, (with citrus scent and 🍊 orange and green packaging) or “easy clean multi purpose foam aerosol”? (With teal packaging). Thanks!

That was a pretty huge oversight on my part! The Bubs I'm talking about are any of the Bubs in the can. It has to be the can! The spray trigger stuff just doesn't do it.

Also this one: https://www.scrubbingbubbles.com/en-us/products/mega-shower-foamer-aerosol

I haven't tried this flavor yet but Scrubbing Bubbles has some new products they're sending me so possibly this will be one of them? https://www.scrubbingbubbles.com/en-us/products/easy-clean-multi-purpose-foam-aerosol

oh my god, okay, this is a weird question but like … sometimes I just smell cat pee everywhere? I do have a cat but I don’t think she has peed on any of these things, I will just like suddenly feel like my whole house has that ammonia smell but nothing smells so strongly that I’m like this is where the smell is coming from? So a) is that a thing? maybe I’m dying or something? and b) can I do anything about it? I tried washing everything that I felt like had a slight smell but it did nothing. I know, I know, get rid of our cats, they are disgusting. But other than that!

I thought I was losing my marbles, smelling cat pee in the living room even when I knew for sure the fosters hadn't, uh, colored outside the lines. Then, I realized there were boxwoods planted up the block, and when the breeze came in through the windows from that direction, boom, cat pee smell. YMMV but take a stroll around your home and check for boxwoods, or other ammonia-ish common garden plants?

What’s your take on wiping away the scrubbing bubbles vs just rinsing it away??

Ohhh that's a good question! I'm kind of a stickler about wiping — I do think you need the microfiber+the mechanical action of wiping/scrubbing to really lift all the buildup that happens in a tub, sink, and toilet bowl. With that said, if you're diligent about this routine, simply rinsing may be plenty to wick away a week's worth of buildup ... you know what, let me try this out on Friday when I do my bathroom quick clean and I can let you know how it worked compared to using the microfiber.
